I thought it might be fun to show a quick “what it looks like” to get 130 flowering plants ready for spring! Not pictured is the week it took us to weed all 9 garden beds.🤪

I started this garden last spring, and we do all the work ourselves, so it takes us weeks to get things done, especially with our children desperately needing us the moment we look busy, ha! I planted more this year too, so everything is still very young, but flower gardening truly is one of my greatest joys.

My husband usually only does the mulch part - but I don’t like being on camera, so I asked him to help for the reel. Luckily he loves the spotlight 😉🤩 #shingleladyne

Since our home is in a Shingle Style, we have quite a bit of woodwork throughout. It all needs some major TLC though, ha.

But I wanted to focus on my two favorite doors in our home for this weeks #52weeksofhome challenge. I keep missing these challenges, so I’m happy to be participating again.

The first door is in our basement, I love the cottage style of it. I haven’t done anything to it yet, but hopefully in the future this space will become a place that I can process the flowers I am growing, as the door leads right out to our garden.

The second door is our front door. I haven’t done anything to it yet either, but I love the details and know once I refinish it, it will be dreamy (at least to me). 💛 #52weeksofhomeweek16

We’ve been in Connecticut for a year now, and honestly I can’t believe it. It feels like only a few months have passed.

There’s still so much for us to learn about and explore in this tiny state, but one thing I’ve noticed is how critical people who have lived here a long time are about Connecticut beaches, ha!

These wee newbies have spent most of this year visiting every beach and every playground that CT has to offer and love it ❤️❤️

I spent a year abroad in England attending a small Christian university in the middle of nowhere, needless to say our cafeteria’s daily menu was bleak. I remember watching a student look down at his plate and say with deep despair, “potatoes, potatoes, potatoes, it’s always potatoes.” Ha!

And that’s how I feel about all the window issues we have. I find myself often with equal despair saying, “windows, windows, windows, it’s always windows.” Luckily for me, stain glass is much more breathtaking than potatoes 🥔🙃 #shingleladyne

So many things broke the moment we moved into this old beaut that were unexpected and therefore budget crushing, that we’ve still been in recovery mode instead of repair.

The fridge broke/had to be replaced, the oven broke/had to be replaced, the dishwasher broke/had to be replaced, the garbage disposal broke/had to be replaced, the fireplaces had to be cleaned, the radiators started spitting water (luckily we could mostly fix those ourselves), and the cherry on top, was our plumbing backing up and having to be emergency repaired due to tree limbs having grown through the pipes.

Needless to say it’s just how old homes welcome you in 🙃 but we’ve been slow to tackle other projects and are FINALLY getting around to repairing/installing storm windows on 5 of our most damaged windows. Started scraping, then we’ll paint, then install - but I can’t wait to check off at least part of this ongoing project (we have a lot of bad windows). 🙏🏼 #shingleladyne

We started this year in Maryland and are closing it out in Connecticut…it’s hard for me to believe all the chaos in between was real, ha! I am glad that most of it is behind us now, and we’re slowly settling into our new to us home and area.

Our old house has so so so many projects left to do, and it’s hard to appreciate how far it’s actually come and all the work we’ve already done, so taking a moment to step back and exhale into the gratitude of it all is uplifting.

We might be house poor, but we’re delusional enough to keep going, keep learning, and keep looking forward to checking off that never-ending “to do” list.

Happy New Years Eve and may 2023 be gentle ❤️ #shingleladyne
