So many things broke the moment we moved into this old beaut that were unexpected and therefore budget crushing, that we’ve still been in recovery mode instead of repair.

The fridge broke/had to be replaced, the oven broke/had to be replaced, the dishwasher broke/had to be replaced, the garbage disposal broke/had to be replaced, the fireplaces had to be cleaned, the radiators started spitting water (luckily we could mostly fix those ourselves), and the cherry on top, was our plumbing backing up and having to be emergency repaired due to tree limbs having grown through the pipes.

Needless to say it’s just how old homes welcome you in 🙃 but we’ve been slow to tackle other projects and are FINALLY getting around to repairing/installing storm windows on 5 of our most damaged windows. Started scraping, then we’ll paint, then install - but I can’t wait to check off at least part of this ongoing project (we have a lot of bad windows). 🙏🏼 #shingleladyne

We started this year in Maryland and are closing it out in Connecticut…it’s hard for me to believe all the chaos in between was real, ha! I am glad that most of it is behind us now, and we’re slowly settling into our new to us home and area.

Our old house has so so so many projects left to do, and it’s hard to appreciate how far it’s actually come and all the work we’ve already done, so taking a moment to step back and exhale into the gratitude of it all is uplifting.

We might be house poor, but we’re delusional enough to keep going, keep learning, and keep looking forward to checking off that never-ending “to do” list.

Happy New Years Eve and may 2023 be gentle ❤️ #shingleladyne

Merry Christmas ❤️ Happy Holidays
Swipe to see my children’s room turn to Christmas 🎅🎄

My girls room is small enough that I’m getting very close to actually finishing it.

One of the things left to do is find shades, but no matter how much I complain about how expensive nice shades are…they don’t get cheaper 🧐😉

I really love Christmas and my oldest was actually born on Christmas. We’re on a tight budget, but I still wanted to have a little holiday fun with their room. When my oldest saw how I had decorated it she said, “oh mama…it’s so magical and cozy” and I haven’t stopped smiling. 🥲 #shingleladyne

It’s our first snow in Connecticut and even though we’re not expected to get more than 3 inches, we’re still excited around here!

I’ve been feeling rather embarrassed of our meager Christmas light display - we’ve always used white lights on our other old homes, but this house had too much of a gingerbread feel for that…so we need sometime to build up our colorful light collection.

But none of that matters in the snow, it makes everything absolutely beautiful 🎄🎄🎄🎄 #firstsnowfall #shingleladyne

We’ve been in Connecticut for 6 months now.

Moving to New England was something we wanted to do, not needed to do and that’s been hard to explain to our friends, and family.

I think people expect big explanations for big decisions, but the truth is, sometimes it’s as simple as wanting a change of view. And so far…this is the most gorgeous Autumn I have ever experienced and for now, that feels like a good enough explanation 🙃🍁🍁🍂🍂 #autumninconnecticut
